PrefabNZ Report Predicts 10% Increase In Prefab Uptake

PrefabNZ Report Predicts Uptake in Prefabrication

The PrefabNZ 5 Year Impact Report was released last month and takes a collective view of the New Zealand prefabricated construction sector as it continues to see promising growth. Despite Interpod’s current focus on the Australian market, it is very encouraging to see the growth of the prefab modular sector in the construction industry of one of our closest neighbours.

The 5 Year Impact Report was created using research and findings from 2010 to 2015, which were then collated to conclude what they believe the predicted uptake is for the next ten years in NZ. Hybrid (Pod + Panel) is predicted to increase 10% alone. Alongside this, a 90% increase in prefab components is projected by 2026.

Globally, the trend towards prefabrication has been recognized.

In 2013, the United Kingdom’s offsite construction sector accounted for 7% of total construction output, worth over £1.5bn ($2.97bn AUD) to the economy. The UK Commission for Employment and Skills estimates this figure to increase to over £6bn ($11.8 AUD) in coming years and some of the UK’s biggest builders are on board to see it happen.

Considering that New Zealand’s construction industry is in fact smaller than Victoria’s, running at $16.57 billion in 2015 in comparison with Victoria’s $21.6 billion, it is fair to say that there are very exciting things in store for the Australian prefabricated construction industry.

Currently, Interpod are Australia’s leading manufacturer of prefabricated modular bathroom pods. Driving the adoption of prefabricated modular technologies has seen some of Australia’s leading builders employ Interpod’s tried and proved end-to-end bathroom innovation. We look forward to seeing growth in prefab for both Australia and New Zealand.
