Swanston Central by Journal
Following on from a successful bathroom pod project delivery in Leicester Street, Melbourne, ICON and Citiplan again engaged Interpod to provide high-end pods to the new Student accommodation development in 500 Swanston Street, known as Swanston Central.
A progressive Pod partnership:
Journal Living, Student Accommodation providers, owned by Citiplan, worked closely with Interpod and ICON Constructions to develop a workable bathroom pod design.
The design scope acknowledged all stakeholder requirements for cost effective student living, whilst maintaining a homely appeal with the quality bathroom finishes and warm, neutral colour selections.
Cost-effective design flexibility:
Each of the 517 bathroom pods installed onsite feature a curved Astron Designer Panel wall finish, creating a modern flair inside and outside the bathroom space.
Interpod’s close alignment with ICON and Citiplan meant the pod production speeds were upheld with minimal holdups. All pods were delivered to the Melbourne storage facility until required by ICON onsite.

The truth unleashed – a choice to work with Interpod Bathroom Pods:
Journal Student Living’s Student Accommodation project in Carlton highlights the significant impact modular methods have in construction.
The decision to shift from Traditional to Bathroom Pods, occurred after understanding the Net Profit benefit of:
- less trade handling
- reduced onsite waste
- increased bathroom longevity
- easy-to-maintain Astron Designer panel finishes
- ongoing student tenancy happiness & retention from easier-to-clean bathrooms
The full monetary value of Bathroom pods is realised to its fullest extent when Interpod is involved early on in the concept stage.
